We landed in Crete yesterday morning, at the port of Souda, and we had different things planned for the day. Sue and Darlene did a wine/olive oil tour, while Judy and I went off to Chania, a beautiful little port town (but doesn’t take our size of ship).
The ship had arranged transportation over to Chania for anyone who wanted to go. So we hopped on that bus.
There is a sea wall all around the outside of the port which you can walk along, all the way to a lighthouse at the end. If you look closely at this photo, you can see the lighthouse.

Judy and I walked out to the lighthouse. A nice view of the port town and harbour from the wall. It was quite narrow in spots. Didn’t feel like going swimming with the many fish we saw, so we passed by people carefully.
And, of course, the lighthouse at the end. Not something they’re using today (really).
After we were done with the sea wall, we walked along the harbour by the many restaurants and shops. We stopped at one of those restaurants to grab a drink for a bit. Have to say, any of the beer we’ve had here in Greece (and Turkey) is quite good. We meandered through the town and ended up back at our bus to head back to the ship.
After being back for a little while, we headed upstairs by the pools to have some lunch. And that’s where we met up with Sue and Darlene again.
They said they had a wonderful time on their tour. Beautiful scenes from up in the hills above Chania. It took about an hour to get there from the ship.
In the photo above, you can see lots of olive trees in a field. I guess they learned things about olives and the different kinds. And the fact that they’re really not different kinds, but rather how they’re prepared differently. Interesting.
And some views from their bus.
We wandered the ship for a while before dinner. There are so many different spots - restaurants, bars, theatres, shops. I have to say, it’s all pretty amazing.
Glad to hear you are having a great experience. Crete has a significant mythological and historical significance in the ancient world and it’s a special privilege to set foot on it!
